I'm writing my Degree thesis and I have decided to focus it on "word of the
day/week" Web sites, and this one is one I've chosen.
That is why I need some information on how this website works.
this is what I need to understand:
Who chooses the word of the day(or the theme chosen) every day and with
which criterion. Are they related to any particular event?
- From where do you take the definitions (which particular dictionary)
Do you think it is just for mother toungue or for learners as well?

and the most important part:

why did YOU choose this web site instead of another one?which is the reason? what do you love about this feature(one word a day)and if you have any purpose...if you can, be detailed. I mean not just say....it's interesting, nice and stuff.....

thank you ver much!!!!!

I like this site, because I am relatively new to the computer.
I am a retired school teacher (high school) and taught language
arts. There are many topics on this site that are begun by some
language or word as a topic, and then they "evolve" into something else altogether. I belong to other sites similar to
this one, but this one has people on it who are willing to help.
I have had several encounters which I thought were difficult, but
the members who post have been very willing to help me out. I made a faux pas or two, and have been "corrected" by a
private message, rather than out in the public forum, which I
appreciate greatly. Unless a member reveals who he/she is, it
can be pretty difficult to know the personality, gender, age,
occupation, etc., of a particular poster.
In addition to the help individual members give, I have found
myriad sites to look for things. These links give me hours of
great enjoyment learning about things I never knew.
Jackie, who is the Seneschal Extraordinaire of the site, has
been most helpful to me. Just go to the forum list and you can
find the way words are picked and other things you are looking for. And I know you will have more great folks answering this
request of your's soon. You may send me a PM and ask anything
you like, if you so wish.
Luke

I haven't been here as much lately, but I can still opine that the generosity of board members—even some ornery ones—in citing linked or unlinked resources, is one of the board's better qualities.

I am interested by the new words I find, some of which enter my vocabulary as functional tools, others as decorative objects and some are merely glanced at and put down again. However it is the discussions that draw me back. I like this forum as a place to talk about and play with words among people who share that interest with me. Not many in my physical world have that love of words; most think I'm eccentric in that direction at best and sesquipedalian at worst.
