I'm sure I've seen two changes (two adds + two deletes); but who can keep track?!

I think I disagree. you can add a letter. you can delete a letter. you can change a letter, but I don't think you can add two letters, nor delete two. nor change more than one.

eh?

eta earlier> "you may change a letter. you may also delete or add a letter."

I say again, a change is equivalent to a delete + an add..
so if you "also delete or add a letter" that's equivalent to yada yada yada.

Here's one: compart

In Spanish, compartir means "to share". :0)

hmm... I suppose it's more economical than 'compartmentalize' but I think that's the real life version of the word. Or maybe 'petition' or 'divide.'

But is it in the Scrabble Dictionary? grin

I think I'm probably agreeing with you now.

a six letter word could have a letter changed, but if changed, it could not also have a letter added to become a seven-letter word? is that what we're saying?

laugh I'm glad I'm not the only one with roolz problems.
I'll be back in a few days to see if someone can put this real clear. Say, clear enough for a six year old person.

This was my intention:

You may make one change, and/or scramble the letters.

A change would be to delete a letter from the existing ones, to add a letter to the existing ones, or to swap one for another.

Examples:

PARTY can become PART. We deleted a letter.
PARTY can become TRAPS. We swapped a Y for an S.
PARTY can become PARITY. We added a letter.
PARTY cannot become TRAMPS because that is making two changes - deleting the Y and adding the M.

Just focus on making one change, and the scrambling (reordering) of the letters does not count as the change, only the addition or deletion or swap does.
