The growers wish to avoid the established term, "prunes," because of the public's association of prunes with medicinal purposes. By definition, prunes are dried plums, and so the FDA concluded that "dried plums" is accurate labeling. Prune juice, however, will still be prune juice, because "dried fruit juice" would be a contradiction in terms... I'm not expecting a move from "raisins" to "dried grapes" anytime soon.
