Today's paper reports that the plum growers have won approval from the Food and Drug Administration to market prunes as "dried plums." The growers wish to avoid the established term, "prunes," because of the public's association of prunes with medicinal purposes.
By definition, prunes are dried plums, and so the FDA concluded that "dried plums" is accurate labeling. Prune juice, however, will still be prune juice, because "dried fruit juice" would be a contradiction in terms...
I'm not expecting a move from "raisins" to "dried grapes" anytime soon.

Oops. Guess I missed that the first time around. I too maintain narrow windows and didn't realize there was a cut-off point that would get you to the same place. Thanks for the threads-up.
