I ran across "herideology" yesterday in something I was reading, and it was unfamiliar to me. I googled it, and got several quotations using the word, but no definition. From what I read, it seemed to mean religious fanaticism, or sudden enlightenment. I am still confused.

heh. I'm pretty sure this (and especially those google hits) are typos for "her ideology".

Or, if it does relate to religious fanaticism or enlightenment it could be a neologism from the Greek for 'sacred' (hieros) plus ideology, which would be 'hierideology.'

Of course, you are right. I went back and checked all those examples of the use of the word, and "her ideology" was obviously what was intended. Sometimes we get so immersed in extending our vocabularies, we can miss the obvious typos! At least that seems to be my case in this episode. Thank you all for opening my eyes.

Yeah, well, I can see where somebody could easily think it was heride--ology, as in, what's heride?

Wull... You're dividing it up wrong. It's heri-deo-logy. The deology part is the study of gods and heri part just limits it to gods of the Faroe Islands.
