Does anyone know if there has been any name or superstition over the ages for a day like this Friday which happens only days each century? 08-08-08.

Not sure about that, but if there is, it would have to be a recent coinage. The way dates are written varies by society, so other such dates would not even be abbreviated the same way (such as 01-02-03, which would be 02-01-03 in most of the world except the US). I think it's just another excuse for a party (or wedding!). Next year look out for 09-09-09. Fortunately, this will only last another 4 years... :0)

The Chinese word for eight sounds like the Chinese word for prosperity so there's a big rush to get married on this coming Friday. Similarly, the Chinese word for four sounds like the Chinese word for death, so 04/04/04 was considered an extremely unlucky day.

In addition to this query: On NPR's The Puzzler shortly after this was an 80 year old woman who's 80th birthday was on 08-08-08 this year. Fascinating!
