Found these in Reader's Digest and thought I'd share.
"Smoking and drinking are tough habits to pick up, but once they are formed, they are even tougher to break, the same is true of great literature, which is, let's face it, Jim Beam for the brain." Stephen King
"If you read a lot of books, you're considered well-read. But if you watch a lot of TV, you're not considered 'well-viewed.'" Lily Tomlin
"Fiction writing is great. You can make up almost anything." Ivana Trump

That's ironic since many would not regard Stephen King as great literature.

Which does not imply that he can't be a great (or addicted) reader of great literature.

Zed thank you for those very pertinent observations. I'm well-viewed but not so well-read though in my own defense I keep a dozen books at bedside to keep me occupied during the commercial. For those of you who would like to emulate my style, in the one-hour program they happen about every 12 minutes but last exactly four
Don't smoke but owing partly to an addictive hobby tasting exotic brews, I am unable to retain much
In my head, that is
Reading sequentially by chapter this limitation is of course exacerbated by the long intervals
At chapter's end how do I know which one is next? If you have read this far you may be a kindred spirit, the best kind to be, while I am dalehileman@verizon.net and evidently don't matter who knows it

Mark Twain would take exception to two of these: "Smoking and drinking are tough habits to pick up, but once they are formed, they are even tougher to break, the same is true of great literature, which is, let's face it, Jim Beam for the brain." Stephen King
Quitting smoking is easy, I've done it hundreds of times. "Fiction writing is great. You can make up almost anything." Ivana Trump
Truth is stranger than fiction, but it is because Fiction is obliged to stick to possibilities. Truth isn't.

I did a silly search to see if twainism was a word acknowleged somewhere and got the answer: did you mean: Tweedledee and Tweedledum ? Originally Posted By: Mark Twain. My favourite is "Common sense isn't nearly so common as you'd think."

My favourite is "Common sense isn't nearly so common as you'd think." Or, an alternate definition of common sense: those prejudices formed before one reaches the age of 12.
