While rummaging for alternatives to 'not to mention' during a translation I recalled using 'never lone' instead of 'let alone' on occasion. Has anyone ever heard this used before? Maybe its just something I once misheard, though I have the feeling it might be used in Oz.
Any alternatives to 'much less' are welcome.

'never lone' instead of 'let alone'

Guess I would have tended to go for either:

Let alone...

or

Never mind...

This sounded a bit like a conflation of the two on first hearing - have others used it?

Fewer is pretty obvious ? ! I am reminded of my early training during which various very good Editors gave me good advice : keep your words in plain, simple English.

I think this one depends on the context of much less:

are we talking about:

'I've never seen 'never lone' written, much less used it in conversation'

or:

'that one costs much less than the other'

or wow's option:

that one needs much less by way of repairs = that one needs fewer repairs

o.k. ... I didn't make myself clear ..at all, pardon me...
I'm looking for a suitable translation for 'abgesehen davon',
which is something like the following conjunctives
let alone, much less, etc.
To put it in a sentance:
I never did the required hours, much less (or 'let alone')overtime.
Normally any of the examples above would fit, yet they are not all that similar in meaning to the German (translating is a finicky exercise)! Are there any others in the arsenal?

Gee, I notice that no one in Australia has responded to your question: I wonder why? Could it be that you've been taking lessons from their Mr. Howard? (ref. non-language topics)

Cassell's Compact German-English/English-German Dictionary has abgesehen -von as meaning "apart from" or "except for". Would these work for you?

ello.
"apart from" is close, though it is still a bit clunky in my text. That's the way it goes.

I guess mav's guess at "never lone" as a quasi portmanteau phrase must be right.
Thanks to one and all!

How does, "I never did the required hours, quite apart from overtime ..." sound to you? The addition of "quite" may smooth the "clunk" a little?
