Even definitions of the face vary. In physical anthropological terms it is bounded by the depression at the top of the bridge of the nose at the top and the upper gums at the bottom and by the outermost point of the cheeks at the side. The forehead, mouth and chin are not part of the face. that's just weird.

Remember, the physical anthro definition would mostly be applied to bare naked skulls. Despite what they may look like they don't do a whole lot of smiling.
