The square matrix made me think of Carré d'Agneau, the lamb's variation of Spare Ribs or Square Ribs :Square of Mutton or Lamb
(I might become a vegetarian if I could work out the
problem about what the Mantis senses when she takes a bite from a small grasshopper, not to mention her husband.
Or the fish that eats the fish. A deep moral problem besides the fact that I admire and love fishes. Alas, also prepared on a dish.)(and some meat too)
