I just used this word for the first time in ages, and decided to LIU; I thought some of you might enjoy the origin explanation:

feisty
1896, Amer.Eng. from feist "small dog," from fice, fist Amer.Eng. 1805 "small dog," short for fysting curre "stinking cur," attested from 1529, from M.E. fysten, fisten "break wind" (1440), related to O.E. fisting "stink." The 1811 slang dictionary defines fice as "a small windy escape backwards, more obvious to the nose than ears; frequently by old ladies charged on their lap-dogs." Cf. also Dan. fise "to blow, to fart," and obs. Eng. askefise, lit. "fire-blower, ash-blower," from an unrecorded O.N. source, used in M.E. for a kind of bellows, but orig. "a term of reproach among northern nations for an unwarlike fellow who stayed at home in the chimney corner" [O.E.D.]

give a sentence with the word Sure. The feisty little dog growled and barked at a much bigger one.

My father sometimes referred to a dog as a feist.

ATTN: daleh [hint, hint]

here's a link to the original post, in which dalehileman introduced promulgated his "three types" model of all human discourse -- note that they haven't even gained their type-x labels yet!

I'm still baffled by lexicology. But I found this planet and by darrnit I'm gonna' stay here 'til someone really hurts my feelings.

I went from whipper snapper to curmudgeon in a heart beat and it's fun to be somewhere and be a whipper snapper again.

Didja know that an overpass in the hills of Kentucky is a "brin"?
Neither did I until I got lost in the hills of Kentucky.

" Go o'er the brin, turn down inter the holler, then go inta the sun 'till you hit the freeway. 'Cain't miss it"

Well, I found the freeway, but I often wonder what that third instruction would have been, 4 hours earlier;(or later) because when I got to this quagmire of roads and trails, I turned my car inta' the sun.

One who coins new words whilst being distracted with beer and Big Ten Football. I also thought: 'coinactuary', 'coinocolonic', 'coinisist', 'coinicyst', 'coinisism',and coinarchilocustrian. But I booted all those out.
