Angora is from the city name in Turkey: Ankara (called Ankura in Classical Greek probably from Hittite Ankuwasha). The Hindi-Urdu adjective gor 'white' is probably from Sanskrit gaura 'white, shining'. Ceci n'est pas un seing.
