Boy, does this "non-word thread" (as tsuwm calls it) need closure. What began as a sophisticated intellectual exercise has now become a spate of one-word grunts. But first, for those of you with buttoned-down minds who can't see the girl turn but in one direction, let me ask a question that will almost blind you with its brilliance. Ready? Why the heck is the dancing girl's foot shadow shown in the depiction? Hint: It is not for Art that her foot shadow is shown.BranShea: You are an accomplished artist of note in watercolor circles. Please go back and look at the relationship between the shadow and the turn. Then come back here and explain the relationship and the effect to us and then we can all go home.

I returned a few times to the dancer just for amusement. I then focussed on the foot shadow and noticed that focussing on the foot shadow made the direct steady switch (there must be a better word for steady switch: on- of, left- right, much easier. But it is a mind trick. I'm a true born left hander who forced herself to write righthanded and use right-hand tools to be like all the other kids.
watercolor has not much to do with this.(OK that was just the hint) The shadow does. (I do categorize to the red + blue brainfunction items, though taken with a grain of salt.) ( from today's quote: All individuals are a bundle of contradictions -- )
The foot shadow I think enables you to imagine (see) three dimensionality and gives a hold to manipulate the silhouette. Also I think it is the rythm of the foot shadow that makes quickstep-reverse easier.

Okay ,okay, okay . Look at her heel. Just one split second before it touches the shadow you can put her into a perpitual switch movement. Specially when you move your head a little with the movement.
Helen! !Of troy!I've found my other obsession too! It is amazing how eye and mind work together. She can do a whole circle back and fro and a half circle back and fro.

Hmm. Say Shea, maybe you've been doing too many still life paintings for the past twenty years to notice, but the moving shadow which represents the dancer's extended leg only moves from the viewer's right to his left.
Where, relative to the viewer and the dancer, is the light source?

That's right, but that's because the foot part sinks under the lower frame line when it moves from left to right.(If they had not cut it off you would see that it's all perfectly mirrored and the source of light is (imo) of no importance. They suggest counterlight, but quite diffused. No real light source.I'm almost sure that against a totally flat light blue background the whole thing would work as well. For you, twenty years of discovering tiny prints in dark spaces and behind frames of rock? Do you not see through the frame?
Because of the frame line you can isolate the extended foot shadow and see the visible part only moving from right to left. But your (sorry), my mind can still see the part that moves under the frame. And it sure moves with the figure, both ways.

But about that hogwash. Why would no one want to play the hogwash any more? The hog is a renowned pumpkin eater.Would there be no Halloween Special? In this typical and amusing American festival I would not participate. Not give a definition nor vote. Just sit back in a lazy chair and be amused. (like so many others)
No chance to bring the hog ghost - spirit back to life??? Tsuwm? A nice ghostie performance?
