Interesting! At the risk of sounding too snitty, perhaps their initiation ritual should include Googling? An article is an article however you stumble upon it.

Is my math that bad? The first paragraph cites 1989, then "they began noticing it again in 2005" and yet quote "senior editor Jim Lowe, who is at a loss to explain snitty's six-year publication gap."

snotty
One entry found for snotty.
Main Entry: snot·ty
Pronunciation: 'snä-tE

2 : annoyingly or spitefully unpleasant; especially : SNOOTY

Snitty will be pleasant company for snooty.

[The editors, who were eager to define snitty as "disagreeably agitated," ]

Or either there was a paragraph noting that it had a ten year history in print before it went underground and that paragraph got redacted from the AP article by a Times Argus editor.

Except googling shows that all the editors in the world seem to have redacted out the same paragraph. Maybe someone has access to the original AP copy.
