i read today that Tata (cheifly brit for goodbay (informal) is from a burmese word for good bye.
one look didn't have much to say.. anyone know anything.
(alegedly, the brit's picked it up while in burma..)
Where'd you read it?
This site does list Bislama, Houailou, and Mon (a language of Burma and Thailand) as languages in which tata is used for good-bye. Bislama looks like a pidgin.
