Could someone please explain who the "us" refers to in May 11's Gibran quote, below? It can't be "people," but I suppose it could be one of "mystics," "poets," or "artists." However, I get the feeling that he was referring to some other group. Does anyone know the answer to this?

An epoch will come when people disclaim kinship with us as we disclaim kinship with the monkeys.
