Edit: Hey--I simply Pasted that in, without using the Create a Link button, and it works--at least for me. Please let me know, if anyone cares to try it, if it doesn't for others. Warning --this is an MSN page, with ads, so if you don't want to see them, don't go there.

it has always been able to do that, you just have to be careful with really long links...

..and the URL is too wide for my "restored down" window, but I get the scroll bar for that post only (with Firefox).

A technical question I entrust to this thread and those who might know :

Is there no way to delete a post in a thread once it has been followed up by a new post or after a certain time limit? I want to delete a post in the Thee's and Thou's thread , but I see no edit button.
Yet I remember having been able to edit and delete old posts also in this new system.

But not now. Riddle ?

There's a time limit on editing posts. Not sure what it is but there it is. On the old board one could delete a post as long as no one had responded to it and editing could be done at any time. Lemme check on deleting.

Edit: There's no delete button but one can always edit it down to nothing.

Re-edit: B'lay m'last. There is a delete option within the edit screen.

One last edit: The Mark as Edited option can be unchosen even after it has been chosen in a previous edit.

this is likely a admin-editable "feature". not sure if Jackie can change it. I'm of a divided-mind about whether one should be able to indefinitely edit/delete.

Well, I looked at the FAQ and found this. So I'll leave it. Forget it.

[ Users can edit their own posts up to 3600 minutes after they are made. Where the change is substantial, it is courteous mark the post as edited so as to alert readers to the changed content. For cosmetic changes, it's better not to do so. ]

3600 hours / 24 hours per day = 150 days!

Etaoin, my calculating capacity is bad enough as it is.
Yet, I managed to divide 3600 by 24 and (without the help of a calculator ! and must conclude tsuwm is right.)
Bad manners to try and fool me!.
I'll note time and date of my first test-post and see whether it will run out of editing possibilities in one and a half day. Forget about the 150 days.

The quote says "minutes" -- BranShea's question asks "hours."

Yes, that is true, but my question was (look back and not in anger) how many days in 3600 hours? like I copied it from FAQ.
Not 3600 minutes.
To keep it short, I said: I will look in one and a half day to see if they probably meant 36 hours in stead of 3600.
And that is because, what is the use of keeping a post editable for 150 days or say so, when it happens to be impossible after about a week?
While the world keeps on turning I will keep a sharp eye on that marked post!

[The quote says "minutes" -- BranShea's question asks "hours."]
Thank you Anna , your short post is a lot shorter than my short post.

therein lies all of this confusion(?)..

what you (purportedly) copied from the FAQ says (and I cut and paste from your original post) 3600 minutes.

-joe (tempest <> teapot) friday

edit: and here it is from the FAQ, Users can edit their own posts up to 3600 minutes after they are made. like eta said, 60 hours, 2.5 days.

and so, finally, 1.5 days prolly won't be enough of a test!

By Joe! you are so right!
Misread my own post. Time reading problem on top of a calculating problem. Here goes a promising future, down the drain.

Apologies Etaoin, so 60 hours, I'll check. storm's over - tea break.

Ha ha.. I was on the line of thought that there was actually 23hrs and 56mins in a day hence the need for a leap year, but I got fixated with 25hrs. I don't know why! 3630(I even got that wrong) minutes in 2.5 days. I don't think so. So I quickly deleted the post and agreed with Etaoin that we all make mistakes, quite often. Well spotted Branshea.

Um...JFTR, it seems that I have the ability to delete posts; at least eta's above, from 04/06/07, shows me the button. So if anybody wants an old post of theirs deleted, give me a holler.

(Yes, I apparently can Edit, too, but I don't, and won't, barring some extenuating circumstance such as the rather frantic call I got from someone about a member who had inadvertantly posted a link with identifying information about the caller. Since the post-er was here only infrequently, I went in and deleted the link.

Ahem. To repeat: I don't, and won't, barring some extenuating circumstance .

Thanks, Branny! (My daughter graduated from college on Sunday. Best Mother's Day present I've ever had.)
