I have Toscanini's version of the 9th in my mp3 collection(don't ask— but completely legal, I tell you). I cannot understand a word of the lyrics, which is compounded by the 'interesting' pronunciation of German. Hence, I ask for Beethoven's 9th in an alphabet completely devoid of the possibility of such irregularities: that is, the IPA.

Good luck.

Some musical scores may offer pronunciation of the Schiller ode, or you might find a recording of it recited (no music). What's "interesting" about the Toscanini version? What nationality is the chorus? (I'm assuming it's the NBC Orchestra...)

There is a standard English translation if all you want to know is what the words mean.

I know what the words mean. The article waxes lyric about tempo in the Symphony, and then praises Toscanini's recording. There's a lot of other similar sites out there. He says the 1938 recording is as good, if not better, but I prefer to take the word of Toscanini himself; he didn't approve the 1938 version.

I'll try to get a score, then.

Not a translation: a simple changing of the alphabet.
