Will someone recommend a site that provides not just definitions for English words, but also many examples of the words in standard sentences? A partner from Thailand experiences great difficulty in applying English definitions he's trying to learn, but neither of us can find a good site for applied usage. Thank you for any recommendation.

I sometimes use this > http://www.thefreedictionary.com/which—if you enter a word and scroll down—has a bunch of citations from literature. e.g. "Dictionary" Quote:
References in classic literature.
The earliest mentionable English dictionary had appeared as far back as 1604, —A History of English Literature by Fletcher, Robert Huntington.
One knew the whole Latin dictionary and also three years' issue of the daily paper of the town off by heart, so that he could repeat it all backwards or forwards as you pleased. —The Yellow Fairy Book by Lang, Andrew.
He has given me a dictionary to look up all the hard words in. —Rebecca Of Sunnybrook Farm by Wiggin, Kate Douglas
