Anna: You never know. The typical slangster probably doesn't know French and no doubt pronounces it fox pass. In a shorter time than you might imagine, then, it's picked up by Merriam just that way

This has always puzzled me. A restroom that can be used my either gender is called, UNISEX. But it really should be BISEX. Since "uni" implies only one and "bi" implies two. English is a crazy language
