How do you pronounce this word? Apparently I've been mispronouncing it -- not that I use it a lot, but.

Rightly or wrongly, I say it: DEZ-el-tory. And I do know what it means, she replied casually.

And that reminds me of a gripe I have about those Word Power tests in Reader's Digest: nearly every one of them will have a "correct" definition that isn't, really. I guess they try to keep them short, but some of them leave a lot to be desired. The latest ex. was 'impugn' being defined as 'attack'.

I go with duh (no, not quite duh I guess it is that schwa sound they talked about 40 years ago) sul tor ee.

I guess this word is of English origin. Too bad. My argument as an American is that i can pronounce any foreign word the way I want, and if the originating speakers don't like it, too bad. Keep your word out of my language then. I have no excuse for mispronouncing English words.

Just saw it defined at another post as disconnected. I always looked at it as half-hearted, which is why I thought disconnected apt.

I pronounce(d) it as Aramis does. But it's wrong, I recently found out. Jackie's pronunciation is correct. Surprising, since she's a Kentucky girl [/duck].

FNA, what syllable has the emphasis in your pronunciation?

Mis-SELL-uh-nee. I think people in Chicago say it the other way.

Well--I had to go look it up. Apparently either I'm a Brit, or I've heard it wrong my entire life. I never heard anyone, anywhere, say it the other way till I got to talking with some folks here. Weird.
