Hi,
I'm looking for the word for a method of divination by means of looking into the reflection of a mirror in the reflection of a well (as seen in the movie Cold Mountain).
It's not catoptromancy, which is just "divination with a mirror."
From the link:Quote:
Fortune-tellers and magicians would use such stones, or perhaps polished metal mirrors or reflections in bowls of water to answer questions or predict the future.
I'm unclear on the difference between this and the word you're looking for. This seems to me to be exactly as you've described it.
If I understood Hydra right, he or she was talking about looking into a reflection of a reflection.
Hey--double catoptromancy?
I don't think the use of a mirror with the surface of water takes it outside the realm of catoptromancy. Some sources describe the technique of dangling a mirror over the surface of water in a well as a form of catoptromancy.
That's all very helpful.
Thank you.
