Sorry, the point wasn't to make fun of their accents. Both comments were meant to be about problems relating to the usage of standardized accents.
Kelly Pickler's accent is charming and I could listen to her talk all day, but as someone aspiring to be a professional singer it's hard to see how she could have gotten to where she is now without learning how to do some modulation of her accent/style on songs outside her specialty (not to mention the possibility of wanting to sing Eliza Doolittle or West Side Story).
It's kind of like how they keep finding people to go on Survivor who say it's their favorite show and then are surprised when they are expected to be able to swim, catch fish, and light a fire.
