Bruder bought a coconut, he bought it for a dime,
His sister had anudder one she paid it for de lime.

She put de lime in de coconut, she drank 'em bot' up
She put de lime in de coconut, she drank 'em bot' up.
She put de lime in de coconut, she drank 'em bot' up
She put de lime in de coconut, she call de doctor, woke 'im up,

Said "doctor, ain't there nothin' I can take?"
I said "Doctor, to relieve this belly ache,"
I said "Doctor, ain't there nothin' I can take?"
I said "Doctor, to relieve this belly ache."

"Brother, Can You Spare a Dime," lyrics by Yip Harburg, music by Gorney Harburg (1931)

They used to tell me I was building a dream, and so I followed the mob,
When there was earth to plow, or guns to bear, I was always there right on the job.
They used to tell me I was building a dream, with peace and glory ahead,
Why should I be standing in line, just waiting for bread?

Once I built a railroad, I made it run, made it race against time.
Once I built a railroad; now it's done. Brother, can you spare a dime?
Once I built a tower, up to the sun, brick, and rivet, and lime;
Once I built a tower, now it's done. Brother, can you spare a dime?

Once in khaki suits, gee we looked swell,
Full of that Yankee Doodly Dum,
Half a million boots went slogging through Hell,
And I was the kid with the drum!

Say, don't you remember, they called me Al; it was Al all the time.
Why don't you remember, I'm your pal? Buddy, can you spare a dime?

Once in khaki suits, gee we looked swell,
Full of that Yankee Doodly Dum,
Half a million boots went slogging through Hell,
And I was the kid with the drum!

Say, don't you remember, they called me Al; it was Al all the time.
Say, don't you remember, I'm your pal? Buddy, can you spare a dime?

Digging up the dead with a shovel and a pick
It's a job, it's a job
Bloody moon rising with a plague and a flood
Join the mob, join the mob
It's all over, it's all over
It's all over

I see a bad moon rising
I see troubles on the way
I see earthquakes and lightning
I see bad times today

Don’t go ’round tonight
Well, it’s bound to take your life
There’s a bad moon on the rise

Too late, my time has come
Sends shivers down my spine
Body's aching all the time
Goodbye everybody - I've got to go
Gotta leave you all behind and face the truth
Mama, ooo - (anyway the wind blows)
I don't want to die
I sometimes wish I'd never been born at all

I see a little silhouetto of a man
Scaramouch, scaramouch will you do the fandango
Thunderbolt and lightning - very very frightening me
Gallileo, Gallileo,
Gallileo, Gallileo,
Gallileo Figaro - magnifico...

Galileo

Galileo's head was on the block
The crime was looking up the truth
And as the bombshells of my daily fears explode
I try to trace them to my youth

And then you had to bring up reincarnation
Over a couple of beers the other night
And now I'm serving time for mistakes
Made by another in another lifetime

How long till my soul gets it right
Can any human being ever reach that kind of light
I call on the resting soul of Galileo
King of night vision
King of insight

Since the time I saw your face
I have wondered how to touch you
Bright light shining through the depths
Of my very core
And if you do decide to leave me
I will lose my even keel
But I'll still know I did feel real, felt so real, real

The first time ever I saw your face
I thought the sun rose in your eyes
And the moon and stars were the gifts you gave
To the dark and the empty skies, my love,
To the dark and the empty skies.

I was blue, just as blue as I could be
Ev'ry day was a cloudy day for me
Then good luck came a-knocking at my door
Skies were gray but they're not gray anymore

Blue skies Smiling at me
Nothing but blue skies Do I see

Bluebirds Singing a song
Nothing but bluebirds All day long

Never saw the sun shining so bright
Never saw things going so right
Noticing the days hurrying by
When you're in love, my how they fly

Blue days All of them gone
Nothing but blue skies From now on

I should care if the wind blows east or west
I should fret if the worst looks like the best
I should mind if they say it can't be true
I should smile, that's exactly what I do

Zip a dee doo-dah

Zip a dee doo-dah, zip a dee ay
My, oh my, what a wonderful day.
Plenty of sunshine headed my way.
Zip a dee doo-dah, zip a dee ay

Mister bluebird on my shoulder
It's the truth, it's actual.
Everything is satisfactual.
Zip a dee doo-dah, zip a dee ay
Wonderful feelin'. Wonderful day.

Why this feeling
Why this glow
Why the thrill when you say, Hello
It's a strange and tender magic you do
Mister Wonderful, that's you

Strange Magic

You're sailing softly through the sun
in a broken stone age dawn.
You fly so high.

I get a strange magic,
oh, what a strange magic,
oh, it's a strange magic.
Got a strange magic,
got a strange magic.

"Come on home, girl" he said with a smile
"I cast my spell of love on you, a woman from a child!
But try to understand, try to understand, oh ... oh ...
Try try to understand
Try try try to understand
He's a magic man!" oh yeah
Oh, you've got the magic hands

They call me Mr. Pitiful
Baby thats my name now
They call me Mr. Pitiful Thats how I got my fame
But people just don`t seem to understand
How someone can feel so blue
They call me Mr pitiful cause I lost someone just like you.

They call me Mr. Pitiful
This everybody knows
They call me Mr. Pitiful Most everyplace I go.
But nobody seems to understand,
How can a man sing such a sad song
When he lost everything that he had.
Everything that he owned.

How can I explain to you?

How somebody can be so blue
How can I tell you about my past
If all things won`t end.

Mr Pitiful
Thats my name now
They call me Mr. Pitiful Thats how I got my fame
But nobody seems to understand
What makes a man feel so blue
They call me Mr. Pitiful
'cause I m in love with you

How can I explain to you

Everything is going wrong
I`ve lost everything I had
I have to sing this song
To get her back to me
I m gonna sing this song to you
And I want you
And I want you
And I want you

Well I guess that, like Otis, I've lost everything I've owned (in a manner of speaking) so I guess I'll re-start this thread in a manner more esthetically pleasing to the refined sensibilities of we of this board.

No more, rap and rock and inane lyrics.
No more, earthy blues and folksy ditties,
Next trip out it will be show tunes and arias from operas.

Oh boy, white folks, this shall be fun.

Bring it Milo. I'm dusting off my scores and librettos. Oh wait....I don't have many, but it would be a challenge, none the less.

I grew up on some of that rock, blues and folk, and I've been to known like some inane lyrics, some of which come from arias and show tunes...... Shi-Poo-Pi! Shi-Poo-Pi Shi-Poo-Pi
