A respondent on the WordWizard board found this post to be off-topic, that is, not about words nor word origins. Not a bad observation.

Steve, Anna; you are absolutely right as is Woz on WW. But if you will return to the thread you will see how I have shifted its emphasis

Helen: It's about two possible meanings for the expr "intelligent design"

I'll have to admit I threw in a little philosophy but it wouldn't be the first instance of such on WW, WS, WO, or PF

On some of these sites (not WS) they'll rake you over the coals, delete your thread, or even ban you if you deviate even slightly from a rigid protocol

A yeard afterward they still won't reinstate you, even if you apologize profusely

While the Establishment paroles murderers

Thanks to all but forgive me for bubbling this one back up, I promise not to make it a habit. Here's the URL to save you the effort of scrolling back up to the top

http://www.wordwizard.com/ch_forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=18766

Part of the reason for such little reponse is perhaps my question was not succinct; so I shall try to summarize it once more

1. In 25 words or less, what's the difference between "Creationism" and "Intelligent Design"--Father?

2. Creationism evidently entails intermittent readjustment of things by the Creator so as to promote evolution. Assuming the progress of the Universe indeed to be intelligent,

a. Could Intelligent Design not take place in the first instant of Creation, adjusting the rules of physics so as to make subsequent progress fully automatic (until the next Big Bang), and

b. If so, isn't it eminently reasonable, almost obvious, that She would perform her Grand Experiment repeatedly

In the beginning was the Word...

and the Word became A.Word.A.Day and then AWADtalk.

And then Anu rested and saw that his work was good.

Alex, I don't blame you. In another such site you might be vilified in a wave of hypersensitive Political Correctness

I am appalled at this egregious grammatical error from the pen of a self-proclaimed guardian of the purity of the language.

I am appalled

Much Beloved Faldage ~

I am so sorry to hear that you are appalled and hope that you get over it quite soon and completely. I recommend that you take two aspirin, take to your bed and don't take yourself too seriously.

Fong takes the task of not taking himself seriously very seriously, Father Steve. But I am so glad to see you offering health as well as moral advice - the complete head to soul service.

Actually, dear Fong, our beloved padre more than likely penned not this humorous proverb. Analects are merely collections of snippets of what other sages have written. Our dear padre has revealed to us yet another of his many talents -- he reporteth the news, not maketh it. (so to speak.)

Whilst I would happily discuss this topic for a few hours, experience has demonstrated to me, at least, that this particular board is at its best when kept for discussions about words. I think that there is an excellent, diverse and academically referenced discussion on this topic over at
Wikipedia.

And I think Wikipedia just about sums it up.

Thanks Jo.

Then he should of added the [sic]. It went out over his name, he's responsible. Harrumph®!

To cognoscenti, the mere mention of the source as one's analects obviates the need for sic, since such is assumed.

The cognoscenti expect quotes from unreliable sources?

"Call me irresponsible - call me unreliable
Throw in undependable too
Do my foolish alibis bore you
Well I'm not too clever - I just adore you

Call me unpredictable - tell me I'm impractical
Rainbows I'm inclined to pursue
Call me irresponsible - yes I'm unreliable
But it's undeniably true - I'm irresponsibly mad for you"

What?! Did I forget to put the verb in the ablative?
