What does it mean? I saw this word in a book review, but no online dictionary can tell me what it means. I got 1,240 Google results for restimulative, but couldn't find a definition.

restimulate means to reactivate by stimulation; hence, restimulative should refer to something which does this.

edit: also restimulatory

Nope, it's scientology jargon of some kind. I just looked at a bunch of web sites that have the word restimulative and almost all of them are related to that "field of study" for lack of a better term.

BS is a shorter one.

Seriously, guys, you need to consider what you're doing here. Scientology may not be religion but experience over the years has shown us that there's a steep slope here. With all due respect I think you should find another place to discuss this to avoid another unpleasentness.

I know it's just a rule of thumb and that we don't have real rules here, but I have this feeling that the alpaca's nose is trying to find the canvas.

Heh. All it conjured up for me were camels and needle's eyes -- but now we're again getting perilously close to religion, and now, to bad translation. So that TEd doesn't have to stoop to explain his own pun, would you please do it for him/ me, Padre?

Meanwhile, i have this lovely sheep, (a gift ) not a live animal, but a small knick knack.. a merino i guess (almost certainly!) too bad its not a real merino..

(does that restimulate any memories?)

Made me think of the camel trying to get into the tent - his master thought there was no harm letting him poke his nose in, and bit by bit the camel took over the tent.

If the wool on a single merino sheep were placed strand-end-to-strand-end, it would encircle the globe five times. And in those places where it got wet, it would release 27 claories of heat per gram.

It's a proverb or a saying that I don't remember to quote, but it is, yes, about letting the camel get it's nose into the tent . . . . And is akin to "give 'em an inch, and they'll take a mile." TEd wasn't actually punning, just putting it a different way.

Many thanks! I have heard of that story/allegory/whatever, but it's been a very long time. Good point.

I've seen that one also as "... and they'll take an ell."
I suspect the ell of being the original, or at least the earlier, version.

well, I had to go to ell to find this:
(actually, it was only M-W...)

Main Entry: ell
Pronunciation: 'el
Function: noun
Etymology: Middle English eln, from Old English; akin to Old High German elina ell, Latin ulna forearm, Greek OlenE elbow, Sanskrit aratni
: a former English unit of length (as for cloth) equal to 45 inches (about 1.14 meters); also : any of various units of length used similarly

didn't know that before.

Thanks for the input (and the PM, Jackie). I googled a bit more and the plainest definition (which was in brackets following the word) was "upsetting" from some reason, so I'm gonna take that as my best measure.

For the record, I saw this word in a review for Hubbard's book while I was still trying to get the inside scoop on Scientology. I'm passed that though.
