Ya, pigeons were a annoying in Montréal too. I found that when the pigeons swooped in, they'd ate with so little finess that seeds went flying all over the place. At least the little birds got to eat some because they'd pick the seed up of the ground.

It wasn't what they ate that made the mess - at least, not immediately. Apparently one of the sparrows was into Swing. I left the window open about 3 inches one day and came home to find little tiny bird poops on my CD player. Thank heavens it wasn't a music loving pigeon!

Judging from its reaction, it probably wasn't into Swing ?

Other members of my family have seen an Ivory-bill and Pileated woodpeckers
Probably not, owlbow. The recent sighting in Arkansas that, with much hoopla, resurected the Ivory-bill from extinction is still in question.
Me? I read two books this summer about the Arkansas sightings and supposed confirmation, and found out that the bird people are still quibbling about the reality of the event. It seems that even the best woodpecker experts have difficulty distinguishing between a Pileated and an Ivory-bill. Some claim that field sightings can only be authenticated by hearing their distinctive calls.
My own son claimed that he saw a Ivory-bill this summer. But I convinced him that what he saw was a Pileated woodpecker.
Maybe I enjoy dancing on dreams.
But I think not.

Yes, perhaps they were all mistaken about the Ivory bill. I’ll have to ask my brother if he heard the bird, or just saw it, but I'm not going to question my 86 year old Mom about her sighting of the Pileated just because she has glaucoma. I still look forward to her annual batch of red current jelly.

Now that I think of it, over these last few seasons, there was a berry dreamatic increase in my imaginative visual acuity after a few of Mom's toasts and jellies.
