Help, help

It seems inordinately tedious to vary the typography in a post. One first has to go to Edit. Then, highlight the material to be altered. Then Copy it. Now select the desired typo, whereupon the box appears. Paste into the box; Finally click on OK

Surely there's an easier way

Or is it just that I'm spoiled

It seems inordinately (very) tedious (awkward, time consuming) to vary (selectively alter) the typography (Caps, bold, ital, etc) in a post (thread, reply, followup, etc). One first has to go to Edit (function or routine allowing one to revise his own post). Then, highlight (swipe or paint using mouse) the material (word, sentence, etc) to be altered (changed). Then Copy (a function permitting highlighted material to be stored temporarily--that is, for a short time--in memory)it. Now select the desired (wanted, preferrd) typo (typography), whereupon (at which time)the box appears. Paste (a function allowing copied material to be retrieved [gained, accessed]) into the box; Finally (last) click on OK (a function signifying (denoting, indicating) one's satisfaction with an operation)

If still unclear (ambiguous, unintellibible) pse elucidate (explain)

I made the decision ahead of time to italicize this text, ergo, no copy/paste.
I also have memorized the codes format for bold [ b ][ /b ] without the spaces, and can enter those as I type. saves a bit. you can even learn the smiley codes, but those are easy enough to just click, unless you're using quick reply, in which case none of the click options are available, only the memorized ones.

every forumware are just enough different to be annoying. plusses and minuses, all. (why two ss's for plus, and only one for minus?)

Eta thank you most kindly indeed. As I said I'm just spoiled

As an old guy from the analog world I'm not up to all the latest tricks, and I will look into the smilies. I had often wondered what they were for

though I'm not sure about this, being quite satisfied with Safari, different browsers may approach these issues in different ways. WWFFD?

(What Would FireFox Do?)

What's wrong with just typing the markup inline? Seems easy enough to me.

It's been my observation that a whole lotta repeating's been going on 'round here. Sorry if I wrinkled your creases, shrdlu.

...too much to remember and too tedious. On other sites it is necessary only to highlight the item then hit I for italics, B for bold, etc

As I said, I'm spoiled

dale, would you share a link to one of those other forums? I'm interested in what software they're using, and whether or not it is a browser/platform issue.

SMF offers that functionality. I just tested it on another board.

hmm. I just tried it on Safari and the Firefox in my SMF forums, and it works in FF, but not Safari, so there are at least some browser issues. I haven't tried Internet Exploder... (don't even have that installed on this machine.)

this board does offer some middle ground through use of Instant UBB Code. as long as you use reply ( not quick reply ), you can click the function and type the desired text in the box. not too taxing.

I see the tangential answer is alive and well in places other than here.

One hopes not! That's remarkably unsanitary.
