well, there is always
expectorate: verb
to bring up liquid from the throat or lungs and force it out of the mouth.
(more commonly called 'coughing up a lung'
(OTC meds are available to help you 'expectorate' (phlem), when you have a cold/flu/broncitis.
(but the word is also used (at times) for spitting--(NYC subway signs warn that there is a large fine for expectorating in the subway)
