According to the television programme "The Simpsons," the city motto of the town of Springfield is "A noble spirit embiggens the smallest man." In this TV-land town, there is a statue of the city's founder Jebediah Obediah Zacharia Jebediah Springfield, under which a smal plaque quotes him to this effect. In an episode of "The Simpsons", the following dialogue occurs between two schoolteachers:
Jebediah: [on film] A noble spirit embiggens the smallest man. Edna: Embiggens? I never heard that word before I moved to Springfield Ms.Hoover: I don't know why. It's a perfectly cromulent word.
Father Steve: Embiggens? Cromulent?

That Wiki link to the Simpson's gloss was worth clicking. Funny stuff.
But with regards this :
....................................................................
"Nucular"
Homer's mis-clarification to his navy officer on the pronunciation of nuclear. The word has also been used in the television show Family Guy. In the "Da Boom!" episode, after Lois chides Peter for scaring the kids with his "nuclear-holocaust nonsense", Peter replies, "You said 'nuclear'. It's 'nucular', dummy. The 'S' is silent."
Current President George W. Bush, in an amusing side-note, also pronounces 'nuclear' this way. Perhaps he is also a Simpsons fan? Or perhaps not...
....................................................................
Where do you stand? I used to say "new-clear" but was then corrected by someone who said "ah, it's "new-kyu-lah" and now, well, I'm just confused.

It's so hard to detect irony on a message board.

I saw that episode of family guy, but pronunciation can go either way according to my babylon dictionary.
