The early Israelites used puns as propoganda. The name of a foreign conquerer was often translated into Hebrew with a twist punning it into an insult. Rather like the computers at work that constantly spellcheck my last name into "crotchety" no matter how many times I click on add.
I wish I remembered a specific example. Anyone??
I've heard that, too, Zed; but I can't think of the example.
