If you ever get caught in a bind
And you simply can't make up your mind
Draw a stick "Yes" or "No"
Sortilege where to go
And leave all of your troubles behind.
sortilege(SOR-tl-ij) noun
1. Divination by drawing lots. [per Anu]
Sometimes also called cleromancy, the most common form of it uses two objects, one of which is marked "Yes" and the other is marked "No".
This source notes that "sortilege", also known as "sordition", is "perhaps the oldest form of divination known to mankind, and its practice is described in the Old Testament and in several of Homer's works."
