I listen to the radio a lot (NPR) and on the radio are many interviews. I've begun to hear, in the last few months, the interviewee respond to the interveiwer's "Welcome!" with an equally hearty "Welcome!" instead of the expected "Thank you!"

Is this a trend? (I've heard it at least the requisite three times). Anybody have any ideas on what's going on here?
