In medicine, we have a few (or maybe a lot of) pseudoeponyms. One of my favorites is the Coudé catheter. It's a real instrument. It has a bend in it. Some to many years back, some clever soul made up a reference to the inventor of the catheter, Emile Coudé. Pretty soon, millions of (okay, dozens of, maybe 3) references cited Dr. Coudé's seminal article. Eventually, someone (at least as pedantic as I) pointed out that the French word coudé derives from the word for elbow, which bends. No Dr. Coudé.
If anyone finds this concept interesting, I'll post another pseueponym.

Then there was the story about Mr. Chadless, after whose patented Chadless keypunch the word chad was backformed.

But, if you're going to be a pedant you might as well at least refer to them as pseudeponyms not pseudoeponyms.

Oh yay, another doctor! Welcome aBoard, Mr. pedantman. I for one would like to see more pseu...nymns, with or without the o. You might move them to Miscellany, though, unless Anu continues to have them as a weekly theme.

Welcome Pedantman,
Keep'em coming - but I agree that Miscellany might be the place.
