This week's theme, elevating insults to an art form, is most interesting and useful. The percentage of fustilugs here in the South is growing at an exponential rate.
A word that I have used in the spirit of this week's theme in 'meretricious'. Instead of referring to someone's tastlessness in dress, home furnishings and general demeanor as tacky and tasteless, it is much nicer to note that they are extremely meretricious. Sounds good, and aptly describes them.
Origin Early 17th century: From Latin meretricius-(adjective from meretrix, meretric - 'prostitute' from mereri (be hired) + ous; also defined simply as tasteless, tacky
