The AWAD theme this week is Spanish words inspired by Anu's trip to Argentina.

The AWAD for Day 5 is "incommunicado".
Please scroll down.

The AWAD for Day 1 is:

Mano a mano means head to head
With your fists doin' the talkin' instead
Of your head. King Kong:
"I'm right! You're wrong!"
So it's toe to toe 'til one of 'ems dead.

If you ever get into a row
You can choose a "POW!" or pow wow.
If you want to hang loose
Then never get loose
With your fists, or "SLAM!" - the hoosegow.

Note: The "hoosegow" is also known as "the slammer", perhaps after the sound of the iron gate slamming behind you when they throw you in there.

When a boxer goes toe to toe
With a formidable heavyweight foe
You can feel the floor shake
Like a rumblin' earthquake.
In Spanish, it's a temblor big show.

Note: Warren Buffet's cry "Let's get ready to rumble!" is famous in boxing circles. He lets it rip before every prize fight he announces. "Temblor" means earthquake in Spanish, a fitting metaphor for a heavyweight "rumble".

A pistolero is a hired gun.
His style is called hit and run.
If you're his hit
You won't like it a bit.
You're kaput when his job is done.

Merriam-Webster Dictionary: kaput
Variant(s): also ka·putt /k&-'put, kä-, -'püt/
Function: adjective
Etymology: German kaputt, from French capot not having made a trick at piquet
1 : utterly finished, defeated, or destroyed

A mobster who sings like a canary
Is incommunicado saying "Hail Mary"
To keep him alive.
For taking a dive
He gets life in the pen solitary.
