classic words to describe a poor scholar.

i know less than that!
i know some root words in latin, but none of the ending.. and my greek--well we can't talk about my greek because it doesn't exist.

i have at times been frustrated by books that use an interesting word-- and note in the text, the history of the word, and finish off with the original greek--as is seeing it the greek would make things clearer!

but, somewhere, all the way, i have picked up most (but not all of the letters of the greek alphabet..and last year, i realize, as i looked at a label for some yarn (a blend of wools and synthetic fibers) , i could read the greek--the label had english, and finish, (it was yarn imported from Finland) and french and greek.. it was a sort of rosetta stone for me..

in another thread, Lipo and there in the dictionary, the greek, Lamba, (or L) a letter that looked like an I (i don't know the name of this letter-iota?(but that is a guess) pi (p) o (another letter i don't know the greek name for) and s (sigma)

the greek letters have different shapes, and different names, (and for all i know, different sounds associated with the letters) but in greek, lipo is lipos( i couldn't find greek characters that i could get to display here)

its like a light has gone on..
obviously, i need to actually learn the alphabet, but.. well its not total greek to me anymore!

i can't say i am going to take up a serious study of greek, but, i am pleased with my slow but growing cognition.
(i am, as i have always said, in some ways, a very slow learner)

Here you go, Helen--this should suit you down to the ground, because it involves math. Um--by Googling or whatever, you may very well be able to find a way to print out a copy of the alphabet.

The easiest way to write Greek is to go into Word (or its equivalent) and write in Symbol font. By the way, it's "lambda iota pi omicron sigma"
