well, do you? there is a new PBS series with Robert MacNeil that is being aired on pbs, Do you speak American? see the pbs site for detail on when its being aired near you http://www.pbs.org/speak/i don't know which station or stations produced it.. its starting in NY on Wednesday January 5th....

No, I don't speak all-American because all I speak is English. One of my cousins told me that there are places in Florida where one need not apply for a job unless fluent in Spanish. I expect that this is true for many places in the U.S. part of America and would hold true for languages other than Spanish and English. It would be an interesting list to read that showed which languages one would have to speak in order to work throughout all of North America.

Francais, pour quebec bien sur et aussi pour quelque places en Nouveau Brunswick, Newfoundland et Manitoba et tout les positions avec le gouvernment canadien. (How'd I do bel?) And in Vancouver Mandarin or Cantonese would be very useful.
