here's some from dictionary.com's word of the day:
No variety of love is too trivial for exegesis. No aspect of love is so ridiculous that it hasn't been exhaustively reviewed by the great thinkers, the great artists, and the great hosts of daytime talk shows.

the great hosts of daytime talk shows

How about the lesser hosts of daytime talk shows, people like Jerry Springer, who specializes in the darkest aspects of love: jealousy, deceit, betrayal, vengeance and violence, and who connives to draw this ugliness out for the epicaricastic pleasure of his audience.

ummm.. methinks that these were *exactly the ones ol' P.J. was referring to, in a slightly less obvious and more ironic vein.

You could be right.

Extract from book review of "Eat the Rich":

"P.J.'s conclusion in a nutshell: the free market is ugly and stupid, like going to the mall; the unfree market is just as ugly and just as stupid, except there's nothing in the mall and if you don't go there they shoot you."

Quite true. When my dad was working in Tito's Yugoslavia the restaurants all had Central Office printed menus featuring about 50 appetising dishes. Strange coincidence was that there were only ever three items actually on sale at the time of asking. Whereever you went in the country!

On the other hand it's true they weren't allowed to play Slaughter Your Neighbour, which I guess is the reductio ad absurdum of the free market... :)

oh, and btw tsuwm, thanks for the lovely heading which has me chuckling on sight... but no thanks for the earworm, as I now have that song by Alan Price (set to the hymn tune) rattling endlessly through what passes for my mind!
