I'm sorry if I gave the impression that I thought that no one else could deal with Bingley's problem. My only knowledge of your computing abilities comes from your posts, which don't go into any detail. The only thread which discussed computing directly was RhubarbCommando's. But that's no indicator either, because anyone who uses a browser will eventually have to deal with issues like cookies. And I did say that I "seemed to be", not that I "was". Still it brought all of you old duffers out of the woodwork, didn't it? I bet though, that few of you old mainframe bods have ever heard of the ONE operating system - free electronic chocolate fish if you have. I then went to Burroughs B56/B59 series - mostly Cobol, but some assembler. Remember Do not fold, bend, mutilate or spindle? On to VAX systems - Fortran, Pascal, Assembler On to Unix systems - DG/UX, some Solaris with C At the same time, all the PC-y things - had a second-hand PET. Used CP/M (didn't you just love it?), Concurrent DOS, DOS, now Windows. [Sigh Emoticon] - where does twenty years go? I tell programmers what to do now!

Thanks for the info and suggestions everybody. In reply to:
it occurs to me that your line traffic might be occasionally scrutinized by some officials of the state who are ๎ntent on protecting it from unwanted information? I think technically it would be no problem.
Although I don't doubt that it could be done, I can't imagine why Indonesia needs protecting from AWAD.

In my youth, I built flip-flops with vacuum tubes (no joke!) Just like classical/modern literateness, computer literateness is a wide-ranging, poorly defined, controversial, multidimensional affair, where amateurs are needlessly pitted agains professionals. Here too, we have critics, editors, collectors, undernourished lyricists (preferably in assembler ), essayists, professors, consumers, each with their own perspective. Thus I find it rather futile to assume a ranking system valid for everybody.

, I can't imagine why Indonesia needs protecting from AWAD.. I can't imagine that either, but it's sometimes surprising what security people can imagine. And if they screen the traffic for unusual, untranslatable words and hermetic code..?

Wsieber - don't see it as ranking at all. I think it's great that so many of the people on the board have a background in mainframe computing.
Building flip-flops with vacuum tubes - I don't know how old you are, but at one time there was no other way. One of the technicians I used to work with worked on designing the IBM360 processor, and before than worked for Univac, I guess doing similar things.
Maybe there should be a board for aging computer ex-geeks.

Certainly we would have to call it the bread board. Hmmm. Looks odd. Breadboard? One word or two?

>Breadboard? One word or two?
started out hyphen-ated (bread-board), but by the time it was verbed it was one (breadboarded).

Yes, a bit like a swiss cheese board only very much crunchier ...
