It starts off as the Krokodil. But, as I'm sure you know, but I'll repeat it anyway (pour encourager les autres!), I was referring to Kipling's 'Just So Stories'. The stories are ostensibly for a small child addressed only as 'Best Beloved', and this particular story explains how the elephant got his nose.
