OP At one time, there were some fascinating books written about how long people had to spend in Purgatory for which sorts of sins and offenses and how much time they could get off for various acts of mercy and charity. Honest. The writing (and reading) of such books offers an insight into the popular theology of the times in which they were written (and read).
