OP while visiting in Iowa, we went to the Mississippi River Museum in Dubuque. we listened to a presentation(recorded) about Lewia and Clark. Sacagawea was mentioned, but what struck me was the pronuciation: Sah-kah-gah-wee-ah. I had always grown up hearing it Sack-ah-jah-wee-ah.
any thoughts?
on a side note, my wife and I had an interesting discussion about regional history. I grew up on the Great Plains, she in New England. she remembered hearing about Sacagawea probably once, while I had never heard of Ethan Allen and the Green Mountain Boys...
