Well, I should have spelled it: OICW.
But: A student this week asked me, "How would you pronounce 'o-i-c-w'?"
I said, "The 'o-i' I would pronounce 'wha' as the 'o-i' in 'oisseau'; the 'c-w' I'd pronounce 'cu' as in the Welsh 'cwm'. Why? What is this 'oicw' (wha-cu)?"
He answered, "It's a rifle that can see around corners. I learned about it on a computer game."
I just googled information about this rifle that is actually spelled 'OICW'--and is probably called the "Oh-Eye-See-Dubbayou."
But I figured you all would like hearing about this just because it's entertaining to figure out alternate pronunciations for such words. Oh, if you hadn't heard of this weapon before reading here, it's the Objective Individual Combat Weapon and it promotes the soldier's edge over lethality.
