My lips are sealed as to the author, but I rec'd. a message today that said, "I hope your Easter weekend was as goof as mine."
Has anybody else written/rec'd. something similar?

I've spent a fair bit of the weekend goofing off and playing Barbies (4 year old niece) and put the egg IN the basket, take it OUT of the basket (1 1/2 year old nephew). Does that count?

Faldage possibly has a collection of my own howlers caused by clumsy fingers; but my own favourite, from my own keyboard, was something to the effect that, "... my spelling is generally very good, but I don't seem to be able to avoid tryping erors."
(- and I think that appeared on this very board, some little while ago!)

I have long envied our esteemed Commando for the felicitous nature of his customised orthography. My own keyboard pecking is just as typo-laden as his, but my typos have almost never achieved the wonderful aptness that seems to be almost routine with his. Mine are merely rough-hewn, while his end up well-shaped. He must have friends in high places.

I always say that it's because I was a member of the NGA (National Graphical Association) - the Trade Union for Typesetters.

I could be wrong though.

Sounds reasonable, jheem - NGA, like the ITU, was one of the oldest (possibly THE oldest) in the UK.
We were organised into chapels, instead of branches, and the branch president is known as the Father of the Chapel.

International Typographical Union (ITU), which was one of the oldest in the US,------------------- Yup! Newspapers were among the first to "mechanize" - consider the linotype machine! My Dad spoke was one of the two featured speakers at one of the union's big anniversary dinners, the other was U.S. Rep Edith Nourse Rogers. http://bioguide.congress.gov/scripts/biodisplay.pl?index=R000392 Many veterans of the armed forces owe her a debt as she was the moving force of the legislation commonly known as the G.I. Bill. If you see the picture of FDR signing the Bill, she is the only female in the photo.

Ah, sorry, RC, I hadn't realized that you were in the UK. A large portion of the ITU rank and file were mechanics who kept the linotypes going. What happened to the NGA?
