Couldn't agree with you more, jheem, but the ad hoc variety is subject to the same infirmities as the de jure.
At least someone gets to say who gets to sit on de jure committees, other than the people appointing themselves, of course.
If people want to play games and invite others to play with them, they should play fair.
If they want to play with themselves, they shouldn't expect others to watch. It's unseemly.
