Our newspaper shop in London was owned by William Charles Drain
Did he let you read in the john?
You will need to know what a "john" is on this side of Atlantic, Rhubarb, to appreciate this true story.
You probably know that Johnny Carson was the host of "The Tonite Show" for almost 20 years and every nite his sidekick Ed McMahon opened the Show with "Here's Johnnie".
There was a company in California at the time that rented portable water closets (as you call them) for use on construction sites.
The owner of this company painted "Here's Johnnie" on all his portables and renamed his company "Here's Johnnie" as well.
Johnnie Carson was not amused.
He sued the guy and those portable johns are nameless again.
