We had friends of the family named Gene and Carrol - phonetically, neither name is gender-specific, so they were always being mis-identified. In this case, Gene was the woman and Carrol was the man. [Their son had a boat called the "Dagny Taggart", which was my first knowledge of the Atlas Shrugged context of my name - so I'll never forget them!]
Also, I've got both male and female friends named Dana...
