OP Dear WW: you were interested in cauls, so you might be interested in another item seen on new born infants, particularly full term ones. They may have coating of a fatty deposit that looks like pale butter, called vernix
caseosa (cheesy varnish).
Additions and corrections welcomed.
From the days when my ex caught 'em and I cleaned 'em, I can tell you that it was really hard getting it off the newborns. It was like tar on some of them.
