Nah, he's giving full credit, with bad coding and everything:

A friend sent along a link to the Worthless Word for the Day site, and against better judgment I succumbed to the chance to brush up on inkhorn words. Imagine my shock and delight to discover epicaricacy ‘schadenfreude’. A word I’d always thought didn’t exist in English.

(I'm gonna have fun trying to decide if his nativer[sic] language is English or German... )

I just noticed this my own self earlier this a.m.; and I dashed off an email to UJ in response to his complaint that he couldn't find epicaricacy in any real dictionary (reading between the lines there) -- I straightened the record on that, I did.

from Nathan Bailey's "An Universal Etymological English Dictionary", which is a very olde dictionary indeed (1721):
Epicharikaky - from the Greek words or roots for "upon", "joy", and "evil": "A Joy at the Misfortunes of others".

Well, it would've been hard for me to find it in Bailey's, too, because I would've looked under epicaricacy instead of epicharikaky. I replied to your email this morning, but it bounced back. Now, it would be nice to know who used the word or if it only exists in a dictionary.

Sorry, I meant who used the word back in the 18th century or before. Surely these fora are not that old.

if you reference UJ's site via IE, you don't get all of the unfortunate HTML intercepts.

>Is he daring to challenge our own tsuwm?

no, but language hat does a nice job of that.

It's pretty standard HTML, CSS, Unicode, etc. Looks OK in newer version of Netscape and/or Mozilla. I know that polytonal Greek and Chinese don't seem to show up under MacOS X IE. Sigh
