I apologize for being a day late; I was here yesterday morning, and decided to wait till evening when it really started. But as it turned out, I couldn't get back to my computer until after midnight, and then the news of a death (a friend's parent) knocked all other thoughts out of my head.
May the peace of Shabbat be with you all.

just an aside: it suddenly dawned on me that all the cultures I know anything at all about celebrate some sort of festival of lights, though it's not always called that. The collective unconscious at work.

I'll take a festival of lights over a festival of darks any day. What with Isabel this year and the Deep Freeze that left much of Vifginia in total darkness a few winters back, I've realized there is much to be festive about in the presence of light, both physical and spiritual.

Happy Chanukkah!

I just wish everyone would leave the lights on the houses and turn them on for the February holidays (Valentine and Presidents etc.) A little light in the dark winter ... and it's the time of year you need something pretty to see !
Happy Holiday - on whatever path you follow.
